There are times when life just doesn’t feel good, and when it doesn’t feel good, we often think that God isn’t in it. It’s a season of struggle, a moment of weakness, a hard day, or the diagnosis we never expected to hear. “God, where are you? You can’t possibly be in this, because this doesn’t feel good. This hurts so much, you can’t possibly be a part of it.”

He is.

It may be so far from what you expected. It may be a pain you’ve never felt before and a trial you never hoped to encounter. But just because we can’t feel Him or see Him, doesn’t mean He’s not before it, behind it and walking alongside us through it. We see so many people in the Bible wrestle with things. In Genesis 32 Jacob is journeying back to the promised land and he physically wrestles with God. He wrestles all night with this Man, and I can’t imagine the frustration and the physical exhaustion he felt, and yet he did not give up. He pushed through. He persisted, and as a result, he was blessed. I wonder if Jacob was thinking, “God, where are you? Why aren’t you helping me defeat this man? How could you let this be happening?” Daybreak comes, and he realizes Who he was wrestling. He has the pleasure of wrestling with God, he is blessed, and he learns of his complete reliance on Him.

When we are in a valley and when we’re wrestling with life and feeling like we can’t see God, let us remember He is in it! Let us push our faith past what we can see. Let us persist and push ourselves closer to Him, despite our pain. He is in it.
