What if we were just as passionate about Jesus as we are about our political choices?
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s growing weary of the upcoming election. I’m not against it. I will absolutely do my civil duty and vote. But, I’m ready to put it to rest. All the talk. All the news coming at me from every direction. All the opinions and arguing. It’s a big year, I get it. There are a lot of hot topics and a lot of major areas of concern. It’s important which is why we spend so much time researching and watching and supporting our political candidate.
But as we near the election, I always wonder who we are really putting our trust in. A mere person just like you or me? We put a lot of weight on the election and on who is in political power and we tend to forget that ultimately God holds all control. He always has and always will. He already knows the result. Does that give you peace? It should. He has a plan. He works all things together for good. The Bible says, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1) That should give us hope and peace.
If we spent time promoting Jesus the way that we promote the person we want in power, so much more change would happen. If we spent time talking and researching and really getting to know Jesus the way that we think we know these earthly leaders I think we would come to realize how little control we as humans actually have. If only we were so eager to listen and repeat the words of Jesus the way we share the latest tweet or news article. If we shouted from the rooftops about what Jesus has already DONE instead of what our political candidate might do, the world would be a different place. If we spent hours on end reading the Bible instead of watching the news, I wonder if we’d be more at peace.
As we near the election, I urge you to put your full trust in Jesus. Remember that He’s got this covered. There’s no fear in Him. There’s nothing that surprises Him. There’s no one who can alter His plans.
I vote that we spend more time in prayer and less time getting sucked into politics. I vote that we put our trust in God and who He says He is and not who political candidates say they are. I vote that we love others for who they are and not who they’re voting for. I vote that we celebrate victory in Jesus because He has already won.
